This splendid volume brings to the attention of the modern ornithological world one of the fathers of Sicilian ornithology, the Palermo-born Canon Baldassarre Palazzotto (1777-1858), who, almost 200 years ago, compiled a list of the bird species present in Sicily with a wealth of information on their habits and periods of occurrence. Unfortunately, this manuscript was not published, and perhaps for this reason, the figure of Palazzottto has remained unjustly little known in ornithological circles...
