Authors

The charm of the Island of Elba is indisputable The modern traveller, whether passing by in passing or lingering there for a long time, cannot help but be struck by its beauty, its overpowering nature, its history When we find descriptions of the island made by travellers more than two hundred years ago, we can only let ourselves be carried away by the tale and each of us, with our own imagination, try to retrace the steps of the author in an Elba that has now disappeared And this twenty-one year old boy, in just a few days of travel, has managed to perfectly portray the island of that time, its physical appearance, the characteristics of its environment, the typicality of its inhabitants
The author talks about various aspects of the island: from entomology to archaeology, from botany to folklore up to what was perhaps his interest of the moment, mineralogy. This is why, in the face of a translation from French that I made, I felt it necessary to rely on experts such as archaeologist Michelangelo Zecchini, mineralogist Federico Pezzotta, botanist Gabriele Galasso and entomologist Michele Zilioli Each of them, for their own field, could only note and comment on the importance of this discovery for the history of the island of Elba
In this issue of Natura, therefore, after the description of the manuscript, the experts' opinions and the translation of the text from French, images of the pages of the manuscript are reproduced - from page 39 - so that we can also appreciate the appearance of the document as a whole
